In September 2004 the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act brought in major changes to development plan preparation. The old system of Structure Plans, Local Plans and Supplementary Planning Guidance is now replaced by the Local Development Framework (LDF), however 47 existing Local Plan policies are to be saved beyond 27 September 2007, until superseded by new LDF Policies (to see which policies have been saved please click here).

The public consultation period on three important Evidence Base Studies which will inform Local Development Framework Policies: the Strategic Housing Market Assessment , the Employment Land Review and the Strategic Housing and Employment Land Availability Assessment has now ended.
