Residents of and visitors to Ingleton will be offered greater choice of locally produced food at the launch of Ingleton’s first Farmers Market on Sunday 22nd June.

The market, which will be held in the Community Centre Car Park between 10am and 2pm, will offer gourmets the choicest fresh seasonal food that is reared, grown and produced locally.  Delectable foods available will include home baked bread, locally reared meat, farm-made cheese and organically grown vegetables.

Councillor David Crawford, Portfolio Holder for Building a Prosperous District at Craven District Council, said: “This is Ingleton’s opportunity to stand up in support of local farmers and choose from some of the finest produce that Craven has to offer.  At the same time shoppers are helping the environment by cutting down on their food miles.”

Craven District Council has joined forces with Northern Dales Farmers Market (South) to introduce this fourth market to the district.  All produce is sourced within a 50 mile radius of Ingleton with the nearest producers getting first refusal on stalls.  Stalls are certified by the National Farmer’s Retail & Market Association (FARMA).

Steven Crabtree, the Chairman of Northern Dales Farmers Market (South) said: “This is a great opportunity to promote local businesses and raise the profile for producers of high quality local food.  If we can keep the momentum going over the next six months consumers will hopefully change their shopping habits and buy their fresh produce locally.”

There are currently three other farmers markets operating in the district:
• Skipton on every first Sunday of the month
• Settle on every second Sunday
• And Grassington on every third Sunday.
