Are you ready for the new waste and recycling collections in Craven?
A new era in waste and recycling collections will begin across Craven from 15 February. Craven District Council is reminding all residents to make sure that they are ready.
Each household will receive a waste collection every week – one week it will be non-recyclables in the green bin, the next week will be recyclables in either the blue sack and/or the blue bin.
Here’s a quick checklist of what you will need for the new collections:
• Have you got your information pack and calendar?
• Have you got a blue bin?
• Have you received your blue sacks?
If you haven’t received your blue sacks and blue bin by Saturday 13 February please ring our dedicated Alternate Weekly Collection Helpline and we will make arrangements to deliver them to you. Alternatively you may collect your blue bags from either the town halls in Skipton and Settle or from Craven Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre in Skipton.
The Council’s Alternate Weekly Collection Helpline on 01756 706330 is open between 8:45am-5:15pm, Mon-Thurs, 8:45am-4:45pm, Friday and Saturday 9-1pm. Settle Town Hall is open 9am to 4pm, Tuesday and Friday. Skipton Town Hall is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday, 9am to 4.45pm Friday, 9am to 1pm Saturday.
When you receive your blue sacks you will need to start sorting your waste differently. Please check your calendar to see when your first collection on the new scheme is (your first collection may not necessarily be your green bin). Once this first collection has been made, you will need to put out your recyclables and waste as timetabled in your calendar.
“We have received a very positive response from our residents by making these improvements and thank everybody for working with us to introduce the new collection arrangements as efficiently as possible,” said Councillor Paul Whitaker, Lead Member for the Environment. “Residents have been crying out for more doorstep recycling and in particular to be able to recycle the most commonly used plastics. I am pleased to see so many residents ready to embrace these changes.”
