Benefit
Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit are national benefits. The Housing Benefit scheme is there to help people with low incomes pay their rent. The Council Tax Benefit scheme provides help with the Council Tax. Both schemes are means tested.

Anyone who has to pay rent on their home may qualify for Housing Benefit.

 

Anyone who has to pay Council Tax on their home may qualify for Council Tax benefit.

 

You must complete a claim form, in order for us to calculate your entitlement to housing benefit or council tax benefit.

 

You can claim:

  1. at the same time you claim Job Seekers Allowance at your local Job Centre Plus office
  2. at the same time you claim Pension Credit (if you are over 60) with the Pensions Service
  3. by completing a form at the Customer Services Centre at Skipton Town Hall or Settle Town Hall
  4. by completing the on-line benefit form

You may be entitled to other benefits that are not paid by the local authority.  These include benefits for:

 

  • Working age people
  • Disabled people and carers

  • Retired people and people planning for retirement

Tax credits are paid by the Inland Revenue.  Tax Credits On Line provides more information about how much you could be entitled to and how to claim.
