A wide range of memorials are available within the Cemetery grounds for both burial and cremation. We know how important memorials are as a lasting symbol of remembrance.
Ordering a memorial for a grave
Craven Bereavement Services offer advice on the type of memorials that are permitted within the cemetery grounds to make sure that all memorials meet cemetery regulations.
We do not provide memorials in cemeteries; for this service you are required to contact a memorial mason who is registered with us, a list of which is available upon request. A permit is required before any memorial can be erected on a grave. When you order a memorial through a memorial mason they will apply for a permit on your behalf.
Who is eligible?
Anyone can order a memorial dedication, however only the holder of the Rights of Burial can arrange for a memorial to be placed on a grave.
What memorial options are available?
A range of other commemorative memorials are available. These include Book of Remembrance entries, memorial cards and booklets, stone plaques, vases, commemorative plaques, bronze plaques, seasonal garden vases and memorial benches. Please contact Bereavement Services for further information and price list.
How can I order a memorial dedication?
You can request information detailing memorial options by telephone, post, in person or by e-mail. When you are ready to place a memorial dedication, you can contact us either in person at the office located at the crematorium or you can send your order in the post. You may send payment with the order or pay when you receive an invoice.
What happens next?
On receipt of your order for a memorial, the order will be placed with our supplier. Depending on the memorial ordered it could take up to six weeks for the memorial to be made. Book of Remembrance entries can take up to a year, depending on the time the request is made, as each six-monthly volume containing the entries is sent away once each year.
On receipt of a request for a permit to erect a memorial, we will check our records to ensure that the applicant is the holder of the Deeds of Rights of Burial. We will also check that the type of memorial requested is that allowed on the plot in question. If this is in order, we will then give the memorial mason authority to proceed.
How do I arrange to have a memorial erected on a grave?
We will give you advice on the type of memorial permitted on your grave, but we do not provide memorials for the cemeteries. You will need to contact a memorial mason who is registered with us, a list of which is available upon request.
When can a memorial erected on a grave?
A headstone can usually be erected on a grave six months after the last interment has taken place, as the ground requires time to settle. If cremated remains are interred in a grave a headstone may be fixed immediately, as the grounds requires no settling period. The placement of vases can also take place with immediate effect.
