Access for All
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 requires all providers of goods services or facilities to make reasonable adjustments to their premises to ensure that people with disabilities are able to use them. Any new building work must make the building accessible to people with disabilities. Most funding bodies insist that any projects which they support are accessible to people with disabilities.
Planning Permission
If you want to build any structure or make any structural alterations to the inside or outside of your property you may need permission from your Local Planning Authority this will either be Craven District Council or if you live in the national park the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.
Architects Drawings
In order to obtain planning permission you will need detailed drawings showing the plan of the site and how any new structures will look. They will also be necessary when obtaining financial estimates for the construction of the building.
Building Regulations
Building regulations apply to new buildings and extensions or major structural changes to existing buildings. The regulations are concerned with making sure that the building work meets certain standards including health and safety, access for people with disabilities and energy efficiency.
The regulations are enforced by the district surveyor, who must check the work as it progresses. If your project involves a new building or alterations to an existing building then it may need building regulations approval.
