Craven District Council’s Commitment to Equality and Diversity

People living in, working in or visiting Craven all have individual needs and expectations. The Council takes its responsibilities seriously to ensure that as community leader, service provider and employer it meets those needs and expectations in a way that promotes equality of opportunity and fair access.

The Council is committed to providing fair access to its services for all, and as an employer, achieving equality of opportunity in its recruitment and people management process.  It is committed to making Craven a cohesive and inclusive community.

'Craven Pride' is the Council's Corporate Equality Scheme. It aims to put equalities and fair access to services at the centre of service delivery and employment practice.

The document incorporates the Council's Equality Policy, and the Equality Schemes for Disability, Gender and Race. It includes an action plan to tell people what we intend to do over the next 3 years to deliver our Equality Scheme.

'Craven Pride' can be downloaded from this web site. Hard copies or, copies in alternative formats or languages are available from us on request.

Progress on implementing Craven Pride
An update on implementation of the Craven Pride action plan will be placed on the website in the near future.

Renewal of Craven Corporate Equality Scheme 2010

During 2010 Craven District Council will be renewing its Corporate Equality Scheme in line with the Equality Bill which is currently going through Parliament.

The Equality Act will require Craven District Council to set out its equality objectives for communities within Craven across the six diversity strands of age, race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, religion and belief. In addition we will also be considering people from rural or isolated communities.

During the renewal of our Single Equality Scheme, we want to hear from individuals, community groups and stakeholders. For further information about how you can get involved please watch this space or contact our Community Engagement and Equalities Officer on the details below.
