Elections
The Council's Returning Officer is responsible for the conduct of all Parish, District, General and European elections and referendums in the District

District Council Elections
Craven District Council has 30 Councillors representing 19 Wards; each ward has either 1 or 2 Councillors.  A third of the Council is elected in three out of every four years' period.  District Councillors serve a term of four years. The results of the elections held on 1 May 2008 are shown opposite. 

Parish Council Elections
Parish elections are held on similar cycles to the District Council elections.  Each Parish Council is elected once every four years. There are 37 Parish Councils in the District.  

County Council Elections

There are 7 North Yorkshire County Council Electoral Divisions in Craven. County Councillors are elected once every four years and serve a term of four years.  The last elections were held in May 2005.

Parliamentary Elections
The Member of Parliament for the Skipton and Ripon Constituency is voted into the House of Commons at a parliamentary general election (or by-election). By convention, General Elections have to take place within 5 years of the last election, but can take place at any time, once HM The Queen has dissolved Parliament.
The last Parliamentary Election was held on 5 May 2005.

By-Elections
A By-election can be held if a Councillor (Parish, District or County) or the Member of Parliament dies or resigns.

European Elections
The UK's membership of the European Union means that elections to the European Parliament are held every 5 years.
The last European Parliamentary Election was held on 10 June 2004.
