The first round of review and assessment has already been carried out in Craven District. The Stage 1 Air Quality Review was carried out in 1999 and the Stage 2 Air Quality Review was carried out in 2000. The reports concluded that there were no exceedences of any of the pollutants and therefore no need to declare any AQMAs.
It was however, decided to continue a programme of monitoring nitrogen dioxide as an indicator of traffic pollution at sites around Craven. More information can be found in the Updating and Screening Assessments and the Progress Reports which are available to download.
The second round of review and assessment of air quality, an updating and screening report was completed in July 2003 and submitted to the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). The report concluded that there were no exceedences of any of the seven pollutants within the district, and therefore there is no need to progress to either a Detailed Assessment or declare any AQMAs.
The latest air quality report is the Progress Report in April 2004. This confirmed that all pollutants are unlikely to exceed the national air quality objectives.
