For last year's challenge Cllr Turner (pictured above with Andy 'Triggs' Hodge) encouraged members of Craven Pool and Fitness Centre to get fit and look good for Christmas (2008) by taking part in the sporting event to raise money for her two good causes: the Breast Cancer Unit at Airedale General Hospital and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
We had four challenges to choose from: Platinum – 2000m swim or row, a 50K cycle and 15K on a treadmill or cross trainer; Gold – 1500m swim or row, a 30K cycle and 10K on a treadmill/cross trainer; Silver – 1000m swim or row, a 20K cycle and 5K treadmill/cross trainer and finally Bronze – 500m swim or row 10K cycle and 2.5K on a treadmill/cross trainer.
Cllr Marcia Turner (last year's Chairman of the Council) commented: "I hope everyone will support this worthwhile event. Those who don’t feel up to the challenge can still contribute by sponsoring those taking part."
This year's local good causes are;
- North Yorkshire Air Ambulance
- Breast Cancer Care Unit, Airedale Hospital
Details on this year's Chairman of the Council, Cllr David Crawford will follow shortly. However, he has already nominated his good causes for 2009/10. These are:
> Sue Ryder Care - Manorlands Hospice
> North Yorkshire Air Ambulance
Craven Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre will be hosting the Chairman's Charity Swim to support these two very good local charities from January until March 2010.
