We make every effort to provide you with a clean & pleasant swimming environment and we are always looking for ways to raise our standards even higher. In order to do this, we need your co-operation. The Swimmers Handbook seeks to educate our bathers on what we do to keep the water that you swim in clean & fresh and what you can do to help.
Pollution
Allthough we may all consider ourselves to be clean and hygenic, we each introduce pollution into the pool in small amounts. You can reduce the amount of pollution in the water in several ways:
- Don't eat for an hour & half before swimming
- Use the toilet before you swim
- Shower before you swim
Pool Temperature
This can be one of the biggest areas of complaint in swimming pools. Swimming clubs would like the water to be around 27°C, where as small children would be more comfortable in water around 32°C. It is not possible to change the temperature to suit each activity, we have over 500,000 litres of water in our pools and it takes several hours to raise it by a single degree. We try to balance the demands of all our users by setting our temperature at 28-30°C, 82-86°F, with the small pool being set at around 31-32°C (in accordance with the Approved Code of Practice PAS39 & the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group).
Lifeguards
Our pool is supervised by Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) National Pool Lifeguard qualified staff at all times. They have to renew their qualification every 2 years and must attend staff training at least once a month. The Primary Role of the lifeguard is to prevent accidents. They do this by informing bathers of the rules that exist for their safety and for the safety of others.
Photography & Mobile Phones
We respect the privacy of all our customers and in response to ISRM recommendations; we have banned photography and the use of mobile phones throughout the centre. Written permission from the Duty Manager is required for any photography and will not be granted during public swimming sessions or on any occasion that the privacy of other customers may be compromised.
