After works have been inspected at all the relevant stages, Building Control must be informed of the completion of works within 5 days of the works being completed. It is the applicants responsibility to do this. A final inspection will then be done and if all the works are satisfactory and all relevant commissioning certificates received the Building Control Surveyor will issue a Completion Certificate.
PLEASE NOTE: We are not obliged to issue completion certificates for Building Notices.
A Local Authority ‘Completion Certificate’ provides peace of mind and helps to make a property more attractive to prospective purchasers. The certificate gives reassurance that any work completed is completely safe to the best of the Local Authorities knowledge and has been professionally assessed for compliance. Often banks and building societies will request these documents to complete a sale. A Completion Certificate is issued to the applicant as soon as is possible after the final inspection for no extra charge.
If 1 year has passed since completion of the work or if the inspector decides it is unsuitable for a visit to be performed, we are unable to perform a site visit, or issue a certificate.
We can reproduce any certificates that have been issued previously. As this is a legal document, there is a charge of £10.00 for this service, please send your request in writing along with a cheque made payable to Craven District Council.
For applications received before 1995 there is likeley to be no completion certficates issued, prior to this date the Council did not issue certificates in line with Government Building Regulations. However if a final inspection was completed to the satisfaction of the inspector at that time plus to the satisfaction of the inspector reviewing the case and we have records of these visits, we will issue a document covering these works at our discretion. There is a charge of £10.00 for this service. Please send your request in writing along with a cheque made payable to Craven District Council.
Unfortunately if no certificate could be issued, no final inspection could be made or we have no records of a certificate being issued, we cannot issue one.
