Local Land Charges, Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a search take

Under the Citizens Charter all standard searches should be completed within 10 working days.  Monthly performance indicators allow us to monitor the progress of searches.  The figures for April-September 2004 showed that 97% of standard searches were returned in 10 working days.

Can I do a Personal Search
Any person can do a personal search, but they are usually made by a Personal Search Company.  A personal search is made of the Local Land Charges Register, but you may also need to contact North Yorkshire County Council, Yorkshire Dales National Parks Authority, the Water Agencies Safe-move or United Utilities and the Planning and Environmental Health Units.

Where do I carry out Common Land and Village Green Searches
These are dealt with at North Yorkshire County Council.

Which Water Agency deals with my property
There are two Water Agencies in the Craven District Area, United Utilities and Safe-Move

When do the fees go up
If the fees are increased, the amounts normally go up on the 1st April each year.
