Tree Preservation Order (TPO)

A mechanism for securing the preservation of single or groups of trees of acknowledged amenity value. A tree subject to a  tree preservation order may not normally be topped, lopped or felled without the consent of the local planning authority.For further guidance follow our TREE link


Conservation Area (CAW)
Areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance.

Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)
An area with statutory national landscape designation, the primary purpose of which is to conserve and enhance natural beauty. Together with National Parks, AONB represent the nation's finest landscapes. AONB are designated by the Countryside Agency.

Domestic Microgeneration Equipment

The Government has announced changes to the permitted development regime for householders to encourage the installation of domestic microgeneration equipment. This clarifies that from 6th April 2008 planning permission is not required for the installation of certain types of equipment including solar photovoltaic and solar thermal panels and equipment on or within the curtilage of dwelling houses. This also includes an external building in the grounds of a dwelling house and a building which consists of flats. In addition permission is now not required for ground and water source heat pumps and flues relating to biomass heating and combined heat and power systems.

 

There are, however, restrictions on the size, position and location for such equipment particularly on those properties which are listed buildings or located within a Conservation Area. Details of these can be found by the following link to the new regulations.

 

As Regulations can be complex householders are encouraged to contact the planning department with details of their proposals in writing to receive confirmation of the position before installing any new equipment.

Swithchover from Analogue to Digital
- Granada Region

With the switchover from analogue to digital in the Granada region a number of Craven residents may be thinking about putting up satellite dishes on their properties.  Craven District Council Planning Department would like to remind residents that in some cases planning permission and/or Listed building consent may be required for the installation or replacement of satellite dishes.

 

If you live in a Conservation area, for example, planning permission will be required if a satellite dish is on a chimney, wall or roof slope which faces onto, and is visible from, a highway.  Other restrictions may also apply and so for further information residents are recommended to visit the ‘Interactive house’ at www.planningportal.gov.uk/house ,which can also be viewed at Craven District Council’s Granville Street reception in Skipton.  If you are unsure whether you require permission for the installation of a satellite dish an application can be made to Craven District Council (outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park) Planning Department to establish the need for planning permission.  Such applications should be made on the following form - ‘application for a lawful development certificate for a proposed use or development’ – which is available on the Council’s website www.cravendc.gov.uk or from Craven District Council’s Granville Street reception in Skipton.
