Welcome to Craven District Council's Planning Policy Department

The main function of the Councils’ Planning Policy Service is to prepare and review statutory local development plans that relate to the development and use of land within the Craven District outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Situated within the Planning and Building Control Department, the Policy Section works closely with the Development Control team in delivering the Council’s land use planning service. 

The Planning Policy team consists of a Planning Services Manager, 2 Planning Officers, 3 Planning Assistants and a GIS and Technical Officer

A Housing Position Statement has been produced that shows outstanding planning consents, dwellings under construction and housing completions.  A summary of the Council's 5-year housing supply is also included.  The statement will be updated monthly.  Please click here to view the June 2008 issue.

The Yorkshire and Humber Plan (Regional Spatial Strategy) was published by the Government in May 2008.  The Plan sets out the broad development strategy for the whole Region, and the Local Development Framework must conform to the policies contained within the Plan.  The Yorkshire and Humber Assembly are now looking to update the Plan (2009 Update) to look at housing growth in the Region.  For further information please click here.

The Council is currently carrying out an appraisal of the Settle and Giggleswick Conservation Areas and would like the public to give their views on a draft Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Strategy.  A public consultation exercise is being undertaken which will end on the 27th June 2008.  For further information and to get involved please click here.

The Craven Local Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) has now been published.  This will form part of the Evidence Base for the LDF, and will inform Development Control Decisions.  For further information and to view the document please click here.

Consultation has now ended on the Council's Affordable Housing Guide.  Work is currently underway to amend the Guide in line with comments received during the public consultation period. Please click here for further information.
