In September 2004 the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act brought in major changes to development plan preparation. The old system of Structure Plans, Local Plans and Supplementary Planning Guidance is now replaced by the Local Development Framework (LDF), however 47 existing Local Plan policies are to be saved beyond 27 September 2007, until superseded by new LDF Policies (to see which policies have been saved please click here).

The Council is currently carrying out an appraisal of the Skipton Conservation Areas and would like the public to give their views on what they consider to be important features within Skipton. A public consultation exercise is being undertaken which will end on the 21st May 2008. For further information and to get involved please click here.
Consultation has now ended on the Council's Affordable Housing Guide. Work is currently underway to amend the Guide in line with comments received during the public consultation period. Please click here for further information.

Situated within the Planning and Building Control Department, the Policy Section works closely with the Development Control team in delivering the Council’s land use planning service.
