Allocations DPD
Allocations Development Plan Document

Land Allocations and Spatial Distribution. 2001 - 2021

The Site Allocations Development Plan Document is a mandatory document and a high priority item for preparation.  The details of the timings for the preparation of the document are provided in the Local Development Scheme

The Council is in the initial stages of preparing the Site Allocations Document as one of the first documents to go into the Local Development Framework.  The Site Allocations Document must be prepared in conformity with the Core Strategy and, once approved, will identify sites for development within the District outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park for the period to 2021 as part of the delivery of the overall planning strategy for the area.

As with the Core Strategy the Council is required to prepare the following 3 drafts of the Site Allocations Document.

  • Issues and Options document.
  • Preferred Options document
  • Submission document

Consultation will be carried out on each of these drafts.

As the Site Allocations document is prepared, sites put forward as possible locations for new development will be assessed.   Over 200 sites have been submitted to the Council to date.  These have been compiled into a Compendium of Sites Document, which is available to view at the following locations:

  • Granville Street Council Offices, Skipton.
  • Town Hall, Skipton
  • Town Hall, Settle

The Compendium of Sites Document has been issued for information purposes only.  At this stage no decisions have been made about which sites will be allocated, or the likely land uses of the final chosen sites.  Once the Site Allocations Issues and Options paper is published (during spring 2008) the Council will be seeking comments on the sites submitted for consideration.

In preparation of the Issues and Options stage, there is now an opportunity to put forward other land and sites for the Council to consider along with those already surveyed.

If you would like to put forward land and/or sites for consideration you can do so.  You may own the land or just think a site would be a good place for new development.  You do not need to own the land in question.  In making a submission to the Planning Policy Team, please include the following information:

  1. A site location plan with the land/buildings you would like considering clearly outlined (preferably in red);
  2. A brief letter indicating which use you would like the land to be considered for.

It would be helpful to the Council if sites were submitted as early as possible within the process of preparing the Site Allocations Document.  Sites that are put forward for consideration will be added to the Compendium of Sites Document.

Sustainability Appraisal of the Site Allocations DPD
The Site Allocations DPD (along with all other LDDs) is subject to a Sustainability Appraisal (SA) to ensure that the policies and strategies adopted are sustainable in environmental, social and economic terms.  Please refer to the Sustainability Appraisal page to view SA Documents which have been produced in line with the Site Allocations DPD.
