The Planning Policy Team has undertaken a number of studies to provide an evidence base to support the preparation of LDF documents.
A good evidence base is crucial for the preparation of new policy documents as the information derived from the various studies will be used to justify policy decisions.
The studies that will contribute to our evidence base are detailed below.

Urban Potential Study
The Council produced an Urban Potential Study for Craven District outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park in 2003.
This study is an assessment of the amount of land within the existing settlement limits, that could potentially come forward for residential development up to 2016. The Council is currently in the process of commissioning a group of consultants to carry out a Strategic Housing Land Availability Study for the District. This will act as an update to the Urban Potential Study. The Strategic Housing Land Availability Study will be published on this page of the website once it is complete.
Landscape Character Assessment
A Landscape Character Assessment for Craven District outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Forest of Bowland AONB was undertaken by Landscape Design Associates on behalf of the Council in 2002. This is an assessment of the different landscape characters in the district together with strategies for their management. Craven Business and Employment Needs Study, 2005

Craven District Council Local Biodiversity Action Plan
In March 2002 Craven District Council commissioned North Yorkshire County Council to work with other organisations to develop a Local Biodiversity Action Plan (LBAP) for Craven out side of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
This document has now been drafted and will undergo a period of public consultation from 17th August to 28th September 2007.

Craven District Council Retail Analysis and Town Centre Health Checks, 2004
