North West Yorkshire Strategic Flood Risk Assessment, October 2006
The Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) attempts to identify the extent and severity of flood risk in the area.
The JBA Consultants were commissioned to undertake the study by a joint partnership of Craven, Harrogate, Richmondshire and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Local Planning Authorities. The Environment Agency were also consulted throughout the preparation of the SFRA.
The SFRA defines the functional flood plain and high flood risk areas, and provides guidance on protecting new development from flooding and assessing the impact of new development on the flood risk of surrounding areas.
The SFRA will inform the sustainability appraisals of the Local Development Framework Documents. It will be particularly important for the preparation of the Site Allocations Development Plan Document as it will enable the Council to direct new development away from areas of high flood risk.
