Welcome to Craven's Housing Services
Craven District Council is the local housing authority and the Strategic Housing Team are responsible for housing issues and balancing housing markets.

Craven District Council transferred it’s stock of 1,540 properties on 31st March 2003 to
Craven Housing following extensive consultation with tenants. However, CDC remains the local housing authority and as such has wide-ranging responsibility for:

 

     Affordable Housing
The Affordable Housing section of the Strategic Housing team have the following roles to ensure an increase in the supply of affordable housing in Craven:

  • identify housing needs, demand and aspirations in the local housing market
  • to create appropriate strategies and policies
  • work with partners to better meet housing need through the provision of affordable housing

         Access to Housing
    The Access to Housing section of the Strategic Housing team have the following roles in relation to Fair Access to Housing

    • Prevention - Reducing homelessness through prevention
    • Temporary Accommodation - Reducing the use of and improving the standard of Temporary Accommodation
    • Youth Homelessness - Reducing the incidence of Youth Homelessness
    • Support - Increasing access to support services to Prevent Homelessness

         Private Sector Housing

    The Private Sector Housing section of the Strategic Housing team have the following roles:

    Statutory compliance with the Housing Act 2004 & Housing Grant, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 in relation to:  

    •  Licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation
    • Housing Health and Safety Rating System
    • Disabled Facilities Grants

    I am homeless, how do I find a home?

    If you are homeless, the Craven Housing will assess your needs and may be able to house you in a council flat, setting you up with temporary accommodation in the meantime. For further information please click here.


    I am unemployed or on a low income. Can I get help paying my rent?

    If you are on a low income you may be eligible for housing benefit to help with your rent. You can make a claim if you rent privately owned accommodation or live in a housing association property.

    If you own a property you may be able to get help with your interest payments on your mortgage by applying for income support.

    I'm disabled and need some adaptations made in my house, can the Council help?

    There is help available for making adapatations to your home through the Disables Facilities Grant. The first step is to visit your GP who will refer you to the Occupational Therapy Service. For further information please click here.
