We provide a refuse and recycling collection service to domestic properties in Craven. We also provide a commercial waste collection service to a number of local businesses across the district.
26,000 tonnes of domestic waste was generated during 2008/09, 35.8% of this was recycled. The amount of waste we produce is steadily increasing year on year, it is therefore important that we recycle as much waste as possible to reduce the amount of waste from going to landfill.
This section provides information on kerbside collection schemes for recycling and garden wastes, household refuse collections, commercial waste collections, street cleansing and recycling bring sites.

Duty of Care
If you ask somebody to take away your rubbish for you, you have a ‘duty of care’ to ensure that it is dealt with properly. You have to make sure it is passed onto someone who is authorised. Council workers are authorised, but in most cases, private individuals and companies need a Waste Carriers Licence from the Environment Agency.
As an example, this would affect you if you were to hire somebody to take away your rubbish, like house clearers or skip companies. The duty of care also applies to contractors who produce waste and take it away as part of their activities. So, if you hire builders, landscape gardeners, tree surgeons or similar, check that they have a waste carriers licence.
Campaigns and Events
Compost Awareness Week is a great way to promote the benefits of composting at home.
Real Nappy Week is a fun way to promote the use of resuable nappies. It gives you the opportunity to see them up close, to talk to other parents who use real nappies, and to ask all those questions you may have. Also find out about the latest incentive scheme.
Choose2reuse campaign is all about increasing the quantity of good quality donations to Charity shops and Furniture Reuse Organisations and to also encourage more people to buy more pre-owned goods.
Recycle Week is a campaign to encourage people in the England to recycle more things more often.
Love Food Hate Waste campaign has been created to raise awareness of the issue with the amount of food we throw away. The Love Food Hate Waste provides information on what simple steps can be taken to combat the problem, which has a significant environmental impact.
Did you know that in the UK, we throw away 6.7 million tonnes of food every year - enough to fill Wembly Stadium eight times over.
