Abandoned vehicles

The Council's Environmental Protection Section investigates complaints concerning vehicles that are suspected of being abandoned.

Abandoned Car

If the vehicle you are reporting is causing a hazard to other road users by way of its condition or because of where it is parked, or is untaxed or run illegally, please report it directly to the Police as the Council has no powers to deal with these problems. Alternatively you can use our online form to Notify Craven District Council.

The Council can remove and destroy abandoned vehicles after giving the owner or keeper 24 hours notice. Vehicles in good condition can be removed and stored while efforts are made to trace the owner. The owner has to pay a fee for removal and storage before they can get the car back.

Abandoning a vehicle is an offence carrying a penalty of £2,500 and/or 3 months imprisonment.
