A bus pass (or other travel concession) is available to local citizens if they are aged 60 and over, they are physically disabled, they have a learning difficulty or they would be refused a driving licence under section 92 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. Eligibility is automatic if the applicant is already in receipt of other services as a result of their age/disability.
North Yorkshire County Council offers advice concerning the positioning of bus stop signs and bus shelters. The provision and maintenance of bus shelters is normally the responsibility of the local transport authority.
Demand responsive and community transport services are often available in areas that are not served by conventional bus services. North Yorkshire County Council is working closely with community transport operators to increase the availability of these lifeline services where public transport is not available.
