Craven Youth Council
Craven District Council have been working in partnership with Craven Youth Council to make sure that young people's voices are heard when developing council services. You can find out more about past present and future work with the youth council people on these pages. You can also find out how to get more involved.
Last year the Youth Council worked very hard on the issue of providing cheaper public transport and providing things for young people to do in Craven. By collecting signatures on a petition for cheaper transport for young people and doing a £5 challenge to prove how costly and time consuming it is to travel from rural parts of the district to Skipton the Youth Council managed to get the 'Ride Around for £1' scheme up and running allowing young people to make unlimited bus journeys on buses within Craven for only £1 per day.
This year Craven Youth Council are continuing to campaign on transport issues and will also be working on environmental projects and raising the profile of the youth council locally. The Youth Council also ran a Dragons Den event to help fund projects for young people across the district.
You can read more about what happens at the Youth Council meetings with Craven District Council by reading the minutes from the meetings below:
The next Youth Council meeting will take place on the 26 March 2012 5 - 6.30pm Council Chamber, Belle Vue Square, Skipton, BD23 1FJ. If you would like to get involved with Craven Youth Council please contact the Policy Development Officer.
To make North Yorkshire County Council aware of their campaign about cheaper transport, the Youth Council also took the petition to Craven Area Committee, you can see what happened at the meeting by reading the meeting minutes.
