Frequently Asked Questions regarding residents parking permits for Pay & Display car parks within Craven District.

Who qualifies for a residents parking permit?

Anyone who lives within Craven District and use a car, van or motorcycle which is registered at their address can apply for a permit to park in the Council's Pay and Display car parks. More than one vehicle may be registered on the permit.

What The Permit Allows You To Do

The permit will allow you park in any of the Council's Pay and Display car parks in Skipton, Settle and Ingleton, providing a space is available. Please refer to the Conditions of Use for restrictions on where and when each permit may be used.

How to use your permit

The original permit must be displayed in the windscreen of the vehicle it is being used on, clearly displaying the face of the permit detailing the expiry date and vehicle registration number(s) so that it can be inspected by the Parking Attendant. If a permit is valid for more than one vehicle, it is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that the permit has been transferred to the vehicle that is to be used.

How to apply

Permits can be purchased at any time during the year. Application forms are available online or from Customer Services,Craven District Council,1 Belle Vue Square, Broughton Road, Skipton, BD23 1FJ, telephone 01756 700600. Please provide a copy of a current Vehicle Registration Document or valid Certificate of Motor Insurance detailing your name, address and the correct vehicle registration number(s). Cheque's should be made payable to 'Craven District Council'.

Your duties as a permit holder

It is your duty to ensure:

  • your permit is valid
  • your permit has not expired
  • that the registration number is correct
  • your permit is used in accordance with the conditions of issue

Amendments to Your Permit

If you wish to add or remove vehicle(s) or you move address, please return the old permit with your new details to Customer Services at the address listed above. Please provide a copy of a current Vehicle Registration Document or valid Certificate of Motor Insurance detailing your name, address and the correct vehicle registration number(s). There is an administration fee of £10 payable each time an amendment is requested.

Cancelling a Permit

If you wish to cancel a permit, please return the permit to Customer Services at the address listed above. A refund for any remaining full months would be calculated less an administration fee of £10. Please contact Customer Services on 01756 700600 if you have any queries.

Renewing Your Permit

Renewal letters will be sent out in advance of the expiry date of your permit.

Withdrawal Of A Permit

A permit may be withdrawn or invalidated if:

  • it is found that a permit is not being used in accordance with these guidelines
  • it is found that a person is no longer eligible to hold a permit
  • the permit is altered or defaced in anyway or passed to unauthorised users
