Climate Change

Craven District Council has an important role to play in protecting and enhancing our environment now and for generations to come.

Earth

Craven District Council demonstrated its commitment to tackling climate change when it signed the Nottingham Declaration. We will address the challenge of climate change in the following ways.

  • We will lead by example by taking action to reduce the Council's carbon footprint and by reducing CO2 emissions from Council owned properties. We have produced a pdf icon Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan 2009 - 2012 [1Mb] which sets out measures we will take to reduce our impacts.
  • We will encourage Craven residents to reduce their carbon footprints and provide access to information. The attached leaflet gives some handy tips on cutting your carbon footprint and should save you money too. Climate Change Checklist Leaflet
  • Craven District Council is working in partnership with the Energy Saving Trust advice centre for North Yorkshire and the Humber to offer you free, impartial and expert advice on a wide range of energy efficient measures. The team advise on how to save energy in the home, provide information on effective alternatives such as renewable sources, and offer advice on grants you maybe eligible for.
  • Everyday we all contribute to the amount of carbon dioxide that is released into the environment. Everyday actions such as swapping the car for walking if short trips, turning off electrical appliances not leaving them on standby, turning lights off when you leave a room and buying local food all make a difference and reduce our impact on the environment.
