Craven to welcome the Olympic Torch

Craven District Council invites Skipton and Craven residents to get involved in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay on Sunday 24th June 2012.

Olympic Torch

Skipton is a host location on the Olympic Torch Relay Route. Craven District Council has been asked by London 2012 to help welcome the Torch to Skipton and animate the route for the Torch Relay. The Council can not do this on its own and wishes to work with a wide range of partners in celebrating this unique opportunity.

How to get involved

There are three main opportunities available for you to get involved:

  • Festival of Sport and Culture

We are appealing to all local sporting and community groups to take part in the Festival of Culture and Sport. The Festival is a great opportunity to promote your club/organisation and sport to the anticipated 5,000- 10,000 people we're expecting to attend.

  • Lining the route

To welcome the torch, there are opportunities to line and animate the route.

  • Volunteering - Event Steward

We are appealing for volunteers to come forward to help steward along the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay route in Skipton on 24 June 2012. Stewards will work in small teams to manage parts of the route under the supervision of a Head Steward.
