Lining the route

To welcome the torch, there are opportunities to line and animate the route.

What ideas can you come up with?

  • Brass Band playing Chariots of Fire,
  • Dance group performing street dance routine,
  • Church Choir singing outside the church as the flame passes,
  • Arts group displaying a welcome to Skipton banner,
  • School pupils lining and cheering a 300meter section of the route to support a school pupil who is carrying the torch.

The Torch will be carried through a large part of the Town. There will be dozens of places that people can gather to watch and celebrate the passing. About 9 torchbearers will carry the torch through Skipton. These will be mainly local young people, who will no doubt welcome your support.

The Council has already been approached by several groups and organisations wanting to be involved. We welcome others to contact the Council to express their interest in doing something along the route.

A simple Guide to Lining the Route will be available in Spring 2012, setting out how you can be involved.

For security purposes the route will remain confidential until early June, but the Council can work with you to plan your celebration.
