Volunteering - Event Steward

We are appealing for volunteers to come forward to help steward along the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay route in Skipton on 24 June 2012. Stewards will work in small teams to manage parts of the route under the supervision of a Head Steward.

Stewards will be expected to interact with members of the public, advise the public of where to view the Torch Relay and to keep off the public highway. Stewards will also look out for potential disruption or protest and inform the Head Steward of this.

Full training will be provided approximately two weeks before the Torch comes through to ensure stewards are fully aware of their role and duties.

The following skills are needed:

  • Confident and assertive (when necessary),
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with members of the public,
  • Follow instructions from Head Steward,
  • Good Team working but be able to act on their own initiative,
  • Good observation skills and ability to identify potential disruption,
  • Ability to walk for 2miles and stand for periods of up 1 - 2hrs.

The Metropolitan police and the local police will be in charge of the security of the Torch and a range of emergency services are on hand in case of any major incident.

If you would like to put your name forward as a steward please complete the application on the Do-it - London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Event Steward page or contact the Volunteer Centre Craven.
