29/06/12 - Road Safety sits high on the agenda for the Craven Community Safety Partnership.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is lending support to the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) National Road Safety Day on 6th July 2012. Partnership Officers, Fire crews and Police Community Support Officers will be engaging with members of the public both at Morrison's' supermarket and the High Street in Skipton to pass on key road safety messages. Focuses on the day will include speeding and a summer driving check list for your car/journey as well as giving away free copies of the Highway Code.
Chris Knowles-Fitton, Leader of the Council says "I recently took part in a Driver Awareness course as an alternative to having points on my licence. I then bought a copy of the Highway Code - only £ 2.50 and was embarrassed by my ignorance. I would therefore commend any driver to buy a copy and read it - it's a salutary wake-up call and you will be surprised at how much you don't know"
Whilst our hard work locally alongside colleagues in the '95 Alive' road safety partnership has been successful in reducing the number of people killed and seriously injured, it is a fact that nearly all these incidents were preventable and we would encourage people to come and talk to us at the event.
"With officers from the partnership working together on a concentrated day like this, we can really raise the profile to every driver and rider to drive on our roads safely."
