09/07/12 The annual craven canvass check to update the Register of Electors is now underway.
The annual canvass has happened earlier than usual this year to make sure the Electoral Register is up to date for the first Police and Crime Commissioner elections on Thursday 15 November 2012.
Forms are being posted out week beginning 9 July. Anyone who has not received a form by 16 July should contact Electoral Registration on 01756 700600. The qualifying date for registration is 15 October. If you are not registered you will not be able to vote.
How to register
Further details on how to register can be found on the Electoral Registration webpage.
Colin Iveson, Electoral Registration Officer for Craven said "Please let us have the information about electors as soon as possible. It is quicker and easier if you reply using the internet, telephone or text. Alternatively, you can complete the form and return it through the post.
It is important that you don't wait to reply until near the qualifying date. If you are moving house before 15 October, then return the form for your new property. If you return your form early and the circumstances of someone in your household change before 15 October, contact us as soon as you can so that we can make those changes."
Reminders will be sent out on 10 August and again on 24 August. Where households have still not returned their registration details by 3 September, canvassers will visit those properties to find the information required.
The revised Register will be published on 16 October 2012 in time for the Police and Crime Commissioner elections.
