Craven District Council has established a new funding programme, the 'Localism Reserve' to enable local organisations, community groups and business groups/associations to apply for funding to deliver projects that will benefit communities in Craven.
The Localism Reserve has been funded from the New Homes Bonus which is a payment from central government for every new home or empty property brought back into use. Just under £96,000 has been made available for the fund and future funding of the scheme will rely on additional awards of New Homes Bonus.
Two pilot themes for funding have been agreed by members and so applications to the fund are sought for projects based around:
"Building a Stronger Economy" i.e. funding for activities and services that are designed to support new and existing businesses to thrive and grow
"Green and Attractive Neighbourhoods" i.e. funding for projects that improve the appearance and quality of local neighbourhoods and public open spaces, environmental projects, reducing crime or the fear of crime, protecting and promoting biodiversity and providing more activities for younger people.
Funding will be directed towards local priorities informed by the Council Plan, community led plans and/or other community based assessments.
Councillor Linda Brockbank, Lead Member for Empowering Communities commented, "One of the overriding principles of the Localism Act is about devolving power back to local communities and enabling community development. Nobody knows an area better than its residents or the businesses that operate there and so the Localism Fund has been established to help kick start projects that will have defined beneficial outcomes for communities in Craven."
Councillor Chris Knowles-Fitton, Leader of the Council and Lead Member for Enterprising Craven, said ""The Council believes that local organisations have the right knowledge, expertise and ideas to help local businesses unlock future growth and would urge them to take advantage of this new funding pot. We look forward to helping deliver those ideas that will make a difference to our local businesses and the District's economy".
More information and an application form and guidance notes are available on the Council website:
The deadline for the first round of applications is 31st October to be considered at the December Community Grants sub - committee meeting.
