Rights of access to information

These pages on the website cover access to information under legislation covering Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations.

Individuals have important rights to access information held by all public bodies including Craven District Council. under three specific pieces of legislation:

  • The Freedom of Information Act 2000
  • The Environmental Information Regulations 2004
  • The Data Protection Act 1998.

Craven District Council aims to promote a good understanding of the way we operate.  Where we hold information, we will do our best to provide you with what you ask for as long as there is no legal or other restriction on us disclosing it.

As part of the Authority's commitment to openness, transparency and accountability, much of our information is routinely published and is easily accessible either from this website or by contacting us directly.


  • Freedom of Information

    The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000, the Environmental Information Regulations 2004, and the Reuse of Public Sector Information Regulations 2015 give you the right to request all types of recorded information held by public authorities including this Council.

  • Data Protection Act

    The Data Protection Act, and getting copies of information that the Council holds about you.

  • Open data

    We publish our data so that citizens can see how we work and where money is spent. The data is published in an accessible format and can be freely reused in accordance with the open data licence.
