26/06/2014 - Winning Tour de France flag design chosen

Connie Hawley's flag design to cheer on the Tour de France riders when they are passing through Craven on July 5 and 6 has been chosen as the winning entry in a flag design competition run by Craven District Council.

Connie, age 10, who is a pupil at Water Street School in Skipton, took part in the competition to create a hand waving flag for Tour de France spectators in Craven. Her design will now be printed on thousands of flags that will be distributed among all primary schools in Craven and along the route, thanks to the generous financial support of Education Recruitment Specialist justteachers Ltd. in Skipton.

Councillor Simon Myers, Lead member for the Tour de France said: "We had a fantastic response to the competition with hundreds of entries. It is great to see Craven schools getting behind the Tour de France and I'm looking forward to seeing the winning design in print."

David Jones, Managing Director, justteachers Ltd. who judged the competition commented "We particularly like Connie's design because she had captured the excitement of the Tour de France and given it a local twist. She is a very deserving winner."

Copies of all the competition entries are on display at Craven Pool and Fitness Centre.
