Skipton parkrun celebrates 1st birthday

Skipton parkrun celebrated its first birthday last Saturday. No less than 1,232 people have taken part in at least one of the free, weekly 5k timed runs in Aireville Park so far. Together, they have run 4,081 times and clocked up a total distance of 20,405 kilometres.

Lynn Whittaker at Skipton parkrun Skipton parkrun was set up with the support of Craven District Council, Bradford Athletics Network, Skipton Athletics Club and Skipton Rotary. It is organised entirely by volunteers.

Cllr Simon Myers, Lead Member, says: "I would like to thank all of the volunteers for making the Skipton parkrun such an overwhelming success. The parkrun encourages people of all ages and abilities to come together and enjoy a Saturday morning run or jog. It's also a great way to help people prepare for the Great Skipton Santa Run (5km), which will take place on Sunday 30th November in Aireville Park."

Taking part in Skipton parkruns is easy. Participants register for free at http:// www.parkrun.org.uk/register/ to print out their personal parkrun barcode, which they need to take with them to the event and present at the finish line. Afterwards, participants are invited to join fellow runners for a coffee at the cafe in Craven Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre, which has showering and changing facilities.

Skipton parkrun is always looking for extra helpers too. If you feel you would like to help out once in a while, there are a wide range of simple tasks to do that would only take up an hour or so of your time on a Saturday morning - to offer your help just email skiptonhelpers@parkrun.com.
