Superfast broadband comes to Craven - and businesses can claim up to £3,000 to connect

Almost all businesses in Craven can now apply for a grant of up to £3,000 to fund the costs associated with connecting to fibre or wireless broadband at superfast speeds.

The Superconnected Craven scheme supports small and medium sized businesses, social enterprises and charities with a 'connection voucher' to fund eligible costs such as surveys, cabling, routers, and connection fees.

Andrew Laycock, Craven District Council's Project Delivery Officer, said: "This is a huge boost to businesses in Craven.

"As one of the most sparsely populated districts in England, having access to a scheme that can fund connections to fibre and wireless broadband networks is great news for the district's businesses.

"Superfast broadband is a business critical resource for many companies; these vouchers take just minutes to apply for and don't require any match funding.

"We're encouraging businesses to connect to superfast broadband - it will be good for their businesses and good for the economy of the area as a whole."

The Superconnected Cities scheme has previously been available to businesses in the Leeds and Bradford districts.

Mark Durham of Superconnected West Yorkshire, which administers the grants to eligible firms, welcomed the broadening of the scheme, saying: "We have worked hard to ensure as many Yorkshire businesses as possible get access to this funding.

"Nationally £40million is available for businesses until March 2016 on a first come first served basis. I hope as many Craven businesses as possible can benefit from this opportunity.

"The majority of businesses across Craven are now eligible for a grant, so we hope to see a flurry of applications and many new connections to the superfast network.

"Great high-speed web connectivity is one of the easiest and most effective ways to transform the efficiency of a business and broaden its capabilities."
