Celebration of sports at Aireville Park

Sporting groups from Skipton are teaming up for a celebration at Aireville Park to encourage more people to get active.

Running club Skipton AC will join Craven Energy triathlon club, the Parkrun group, Friends of Aireville Park, Skipton Cycling Club and others at the event on Saturday September 26.

The Xplorer family activity will be taking place that day and Yarndale decorations will be on display.

The groups will be in the park from around 10am following the regular Saturday morning parkrun, and will be able to speak to any prospective new members about their activities.

Craven District Council's lead member for Working with Communities, Councillor Linda Brockbank, said: "There are so many fantastic local groups that use Aireville Park and it will be great to see them all come together for this celebration of sport.

"We hope it will encourage more people to get involved, and get healthy and active - all these groups welcome beginners as well as more experienced athletes and this is a brilliant chance to find out more."

Fiona Protheroe, chairperson of Friends of Aireville Park, said: "It's been a really exciting summer in Aireville Park with the opening of the skate park and the pump track.

"It's becoming a real hub for local sporting activity and I would encourage anyone interested in becoming more active to come along and speak to the clubs which make the most of our great park."
