Flooded properties in Craven can get up to £500 to help with recovery costs, and a full council tax discount

The government is providing local authorities with Community Grants as part of the Communities and Business Recovery Scheme.

This will be equivalent to up to £500 per household affected by flooding.  It will help with recovery costs such as provision of temporary accommodation.

In North Yorkshire this will mean a fixed payment of £500 for a property that has been flooded.

We have already identified a number of households which are eligible for the small grant assistance of £500 and payments have started to be made. Should you not be one of them and can evidence that you have been flooded then the council will consider an application for assistance. A form will be available online shortly to submit your claim.

For those properties that already pay their council tax by Direct Debit the good news is that you don't need to do anything!  This payment will be paid directly into your bank account and the payment will show up as a payment from your local district council who are administering the scheme.

If you do not pay your council tax by direct debit then please contact Craven District Council Customer Services on contactus@cravendc.gov.uk or 01756 700600; they will be happy to help you apply for the payment.

All properties which are allocated a £500 flood payment will also receive a 100% Council Tax Discount from the date the property was flooded until 31/03/2016. This discount will be automatically applied and there is no need for you to apply. If you have had to move out and can't return yet then please let us know your current address.  If you aren't able to return to the property after 31/03/2016 you will need to contact Craven District Council Customer Services on contactus@cravendc.gov.uk or 01756 700600 to apply for an extension of the discount.

There is also support available for businesses and the Local Enterprise Partnership, working through Make It York, will be administering grants of up to £2,500 which will be available for any clean-up, temporary relocation or activity required to support businesses to trade again.  An application is now available and is being delivered to those businesses affected, and details are available here: http://www.businessinspiredgrowth.com/?p=1012

District and borough councils will also be giving Business Rate Relief for flooded properties, with more details to follow.

Additional assistance of up to £5,000 may be available to protect your home against future flooding. Application for this grant assistance will be made directly to North Yorkshire County Council, the fund holder. Residents affected by flooding will be contacted shortly about how to access this additional grant.

The county council is also calling for information from residents and businesses that have been flooded as part of its flood investigation - click here for their survey.

If you have been affected by flooding, advice and guidance is available from The Environment Agency and Public Health England.
