Petit Depart launch

Just under 1,000 riders were involved in the 2015 event, which celebrates the very best cycling that the Yorkshire Dales has to offer.

The event is set to carry on breaking records when it returns on Sunday June 5, 2016. With two stunning routes on offer at 38 miles and 80 miles, there is something for everyone - and there is an early bird discount for entries in January.

The event is led by Craven District Council as part of the council's Cycle Yorkshire legacy work inspired by the Tour de France, and is supported by the recently reformed Skipton Cycling Club.

Craven District Councillor Linda Brockbank, Lead Member for Communities, said: "This is a fabulous legacy event that benefits so many people. With the Tour de Yorkshire visiting Grassington and Settle a month before, the participants of Le Petit Depart will be able to watch the professionals racing around the same wonderful local cycling country before taking up the challenge themselves."

Skipton Cycling Club chairman Caran Stephenson said: "Skipton Cycling Club provides all the volunteers for this event, which makes for a really friendly day as you meet club members all the way round. We're all looking forward to another successful event.

"Every year the feedback from riders is brilliant and makes us really proud of what we achieved.  We look forward to putting on another great show in early June...see you there?"

The club uses the event to raise funds in support of club development and over £5,000 has been raised in the last two years in support of projects such as Skipton Junior Riders.

The event is supported by great local companies:  JACS Trade and DIY, Yorkshire Cottages, the regional arm of Cottages4You and Hope Tech. This year there will be monthly spot prizes of £50 JACS Trade and DIY vouchers given away to people that enter that month.

Gavin Haworth, from JACS Trade and DIY said: "This is our third year supporting this excellent community cycle event and it's great to see it continue to grow. As a local business we pride ourselves on giving something back to the community and are very pleased to have supported this event since it started."
