Craven District Council is asking all households who subscribe to the garden waste collection service to renew their subscriptions.

In order to continue to receive the fortnightly collection service residents need to renew their annual garden waste subscription by March 6, 2016.

Current subscribers have been sent a letter with their renewal reference number and instructions on how to subscribe for the 2016/17 period.

The annual charge will be £26 per licence per bin which will cover the period up until March 31, 2017. Residents can sign up to the scheme at any time, but subscriptions must be made no later than Sunday, March 6 to ensure licences are distributed in time for the first collection in early April.

Lead Member for Greener Craven Cllr Alan Sutcliffe said: "The subscription based service has been very successful. It has shown that people in Craven do have a commitment to recycling their garden waste.

"We have introduced a small increase to the price this year, from £24 to £26, in order to help cover the cost of the service, but it is still very good value compared with other authorities. We thank our current subscribers for their custom and hope they will continue to use the service."

New residents are also being encouraged to subscribe to the service, which provides a brown 240 litre wheeled bin which is emptied every two weeks from March to November.

The current garden waste collections resume again after the winter break, from February 29 for Week One collections and from March 7 for Week Two collections.
