Parking scratch cards now available for blue badge holders

Blue badge holders can now buy 'scratch cards' allowing them to park in Skipton's car parks.

The scheme has been introduced to help disabled drivers who may find it more convenient than buying tickets from car park machines.

The scratch cards are available from Belle Vue Square customer service reception (card payment only) and from Skipton Tourist Information Office.

Drivers can buy as many cards as they like, which come in six different tariffs ranging from the 20p pop and shop bays up to £4.50 for over four hours.

Paul Ellis, Director of Services at Craven District Council, said: "We introduced a reasonable scale of charges in January this year to ensure all drivers using the council's pay and display car parks made a reasonable contribution towards the running costs; however we recognise not everyone can easily use the car park machines.

"Whilst the machines in the car parks are fully compliant with Disability Act requirements, the introduction of scratch cards offers car park users an alternative way to purchase tickets.

"The scratch cards, which can be pre-purchased, give blue badge holders more choice over the way they make payment and hopefully some may find it more convenient."

The scratch cards can be displayed instead of a pay and display ticket, alongside the driver's blue badge.

An extra 30 minutes will be allowed on the 20p pop and shop bays and all other scratch cards will be allowed one hour on top of the time purchased, as is currently the case for tickets purchased in the car parks.

Scratch cards over two hours cannot be used on Waller Hill car park, as this is a limited short-stay car park.

At present, the scratch cards are only available for car parks in Skipton, but if the scheme proves successful this will be reviewed.
