Tour de Yorkshire flag competition winner is announced

Nine-year-old Scarlett Bowler from Embsay Primary School has been named as the winner of Craven District Council's Tour de Yorkshire flag competition.

Scarlett's design, featuring Dales hills, a cyclist tearing towards the finish, and of course, two sheep holding up a Tour de Yorkshire banner, has now been printed on 5,000 flags to be handed out across the district.

The talented young artist wins a £50 voucher and is invited to the Tour de Yorkshire Stage One finish in Settle on April 29, when she will be given her prize on the winner's presentation podium.

Sharon Hudson, Communications and Partnerships Manager at Craven District Council, said: "We had some brilliant entries and we were delighted with how many children took part.

"Scarlett's flag is a great representation of the Tour de Yorkshire and Craven, and it will look fantastic as it's waved by thousands of people at the race on Friday."

There were also five runners-up in the competition:  Emma Peel, 11, from Kirkby Malham Primary School; Emma Fanshawe, 10, from Kildwick Primary School; Freya Hartley, 11, from Greatwood CP School; Sophia Danby, 10, from Embsay Primary School, and Emily Loweth, nine, from Embsay Primary School.

A selection of designs is on display at the Tourist Information Centre in Settle, including designs from all the schools that took part.
