Craven residents are invited to attend draft Local Plan surgeries

Residents are being invited to attend surgeries to discuss the draft Local Plan in Skipton and Bentham next week.

Sessions have been arranged at Skipton Town Hall annexe on Tuesday May 3 from 4pm to 8pm and at Bentham Town Hall on Wednesday May 4 from 4pm to 8pm.

Craven District Council planning officers will be attending the sessions to discuss any aspect of the draft Local Plan with members of the public.

Informal consultation on the new draft Local Plan for Craven District outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park runs from April 5 until May 17, 2016.

Paul Ellis, Director of Services at Craven District Council, said: "These sessions are a good opportunity for residents to see the draft Local Plan and raise any queries they may have.

"The draft Local Plan consultation documents are also available on our website and hard copies are at council offices and in district libraries."

The new draft plan sets out a vision for the plan area, a requirement of 256 dwellings per year to be provided over the plan period from 2012 - 2032 together with an employment land requirement. The draft plan also includes a spatial strategy to deliver these requirements, together with strategic and development management policies.

A pool of site options is also included within the draft local plan, which have potential for housing, employment and mixed uses, identified through Sustainability Appraisal.  Not all the sites within this pool will need to be allocated within the Local Plan.

Further informal public consultation on a list of preferred site allocations/designations will be arranged, following approval by the council's Spatial Planning Sub Committee in June.

The Local Plan will be formally published in September 2016 and submitted to the Secretary of State for Examination in December 2016.  Informal consultation up to publication of the Plan is the last opportunity to influence the content of the plan before it is formally published.

The consultation documents are also available on the Planning Policy Team webpage, and hard copies are available to view at Council offices and libraries throughout the plan area.

Drop-in surgeries to discuss the draft Local Plan have already been held at Settle and Glusburn.

The Planning Policy Team is also available throughout the consultation period.  Please contact the team on 01756 706472 or by emailing to arrange an appointment at the Council Offices in Skipton.
