Make sure you are registered to vote in the EU referendum!

Craven residents are being encouraged to ensure they are able to vote in the EU referendum on June 23.

The deadline to register to vote is June 7 at midnight.

However, if residents are already registered to vote in local and general elections, and still live at the same address, they do not need to register again.

Postal votes are already being sent out overseas - the last day to apply for a postal vote or to change from a postal vote to a proxy vote is June 8 at 5pm.

Postal votes, for those applying for them from now until the deadline on June 8, will be dispatched on June 15, so applying for a proxy vote may be a better option for residents going away around this time.

The deadline for applying for a proxy vote is June 15 at 5pm.

Paul Shevlin, Chief Executive of Craven District Council, said: "This is one of the most important decisions this country will take in a generation so it's vital that residents make sure they can have their say.

"If you are not registered to vote there is still time, so please take this opportunity and don't lose your vote."
