Young cyclists invited to take part in Boundless Networks Skipton Cycle Races

Children are being invited to sign up for the Junior Fun Races in Skipton town centre as part of Boundless Networks Skipton Cycle Races next month.

The junior races were a huge success last year with around 60 children zooming up and down the High Street before the elite race, which drew crowds of around 3,000 people.

The event this year takes place on Wednesday July 6, with junior fun races between 6pm and 6.30pm, followed by under-14s and under-16s youth races from 6.45pm to 7.30pm.

The elite men's race, which British Cycling has this year included as part of their prestigious Elite Criterium Series, takes place between 8pm and 9.15pm.

Councillor Linda Brockbank, lead member for Working with Communities, said: "This is a brilliant way of introducing children to the thrills of cycle racing.

"The event promises to be a great evening out for families - children can take part in these fun races and then see some of the very best professional cyclists close up as they speed through the streets of Skipton town centre."

The elite race circuit starts on the High Street, turns left at Holy Trinity Church and then left onto Water Street, down Coach Street, left onto Swadford Street and back to the High Street.

The Junior Fun Races are being run by Skipton Cycling Club as a 'Go Ride' event. To sign up, and for more information about the event, go to
