The flag was raised at the Town Hall in front of veterans from the Royal British Legion, and soldiers from the Yorkshire Regiment.

The Craven District Council chairman, Councillor Chris Moorby, hosted the event, which coincided with similar ceremonies across the UK. The Rev Heather Houlton, curate at Holy Trinity Church, and licensed reader Roger Lowans, offered a prayer over the flag.

The Armed Forces Week will conclude with Armed Forces Day on Sunday June 26 from 10am to 4pm.

The Yorkshire Regiment are bringing along a firing range and a climbing tower as well as their Corps of Drums display, while the Lancashire Militia will be performing re-enactments and there will be a Spitfire flypast.

The event is being organised by Skipton Town Partnership with support from Skipton Town Council and Craven District Council. Music will be provided by the Yorkshire Regiment Corps of Drums, Skipton Brass, Maria Manchester and Melissa Harper, and there will be a Regiment vehicle display as well as a Craft Fair at Skipton Town Hall.

Food on offer will include a hog roast and barbecue with vegetarian and gluten-free options available. There will be a fun fair at the event and the RBL Skipton Band will play the Last Post and Reveille while the Air Training Corps will raise and lower the flag.
