Craven District Council and the Craven Herald are launching the fifth annual Craven Community Champion Awards - celebrating the District's unsung heroes and honouring their achievements.

If you know someone who deserves recognition for the time they dedicate to volunteering in Craven, or a community group which merits praise for its work in the District, why not nominate them for an award!

The awards are split into seven categories, to celebrate those who have made an outstanding contribution to arts and culture, sport and recreation, digital innovation, and creating a greener Craven.

There are special categories to recognise the achievements of those who have given their time freely to help other people or the community in general - and one person will be chosen as Citizen of the Year.

Each award has been sponsored by a local business, including The Peel Entertainment Group, Angus Fire, Craven Pool & Fitness Centre, Principle Healthcare International, Keelham Farm Shop, Broughton Hall Estate, The Coniston Hotel Country Estate and Spa, and Yorkshire Housing.

Councillor Chris Moorby, Chairman of Craven District Council said: "We're delighted to launch the Community Champions Awards once again this year.

"We're proud to be able to celebrate the invaluable members of our community who dedicate their time to helping others and make Craven such a special place.

"If you can think of anyone who would be a worthy recipient of these awards, please nominate your local champion and make sure they are recognised for all their hard work.

"We would like to thank our sponsors for their continued generous support, without which the Craven Community Champion Awards would not be possible."

The winners will be announced on January 12, 2017, at the Awards Ceremony to be hosted by the Coniston Hotel and Country Estate at Coniston Cold, near Skipton. Everyone who has been shortlisted to receive an award will be invited to attend the Award Ceremony.

Nominations will close on November 13, 2016. Nomination forms are available from the Council website: www.cravendc.gov.uk/communitychampions
