Changes to waste collections over Christmas and New Year

Craven residents and businesses are being urged to take note of changes to refuse and recycling collections over the Christmas and New Year period.

During the fortnight following Christmas and New Year, collections will take place a day later than usual.

There will be no collections on Boxing Day, Monday December 26; if this is your normal collection day, your waste will be collected on Tuesday, December 27. If your normal collection day is Tuesday, December 27, your waste will be collected on Wednesday, December 28, and so on. If your normal collection day is Friday, December 30, your waste will be collected on Saturday, December 31.

There will then be no collections on Monday January 2; if this is your normal collection day, your waste will be collected on Tuesday January 3, and so on throughout the week. If your normal collection day is Friday, January 6, your waste will be collected on Saturday, January 7. The following week, collections will return to normal.

For full details of the changes, see the table below this article.

As in previous years the council will again be providing a free collection of Christmas trees in January 2017, which will also include a one garden waste collection in mid-January. This will take place on January 16 for Week One collections and January 23 for Week Two collections. The deadline to request a free Christmas tree collection will be January 15. You can arrange a collection online at http://www.cravendc.gov.uk/Christmasrecycling or contact Customer Services on 01756 700600.

Any requests made after this date will be treated as a bulky collection and a charge will be made. For those who participate in the Garden Waste Collection Scheme, Christmas trees can be placed beside the brown bin on your scheduled collection day for the one off collection in January. Please ensure your Christmas tree is cut into pieces smaller than 1.2m (4ft).

Householders can also deliver Christmas trees to one of the Household Waste Recycling Centres at: Skibeden, A59 Harrogate Road, Skipton or Sowarth Field Industrial Estate, Settle, free of charge for composting.

These sites are open six days a week from 8.30am to 4pm, throughout October to March (excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day). These sites are closed on Wednesdays.

Residents can continue to recycle their papers and cardboard, including packaging, glass, cans and plastics over the festive season using the council's kerbside collection schemes and recycling bring sites across the District.
