The Council is in the process of writing a new Local Development Plan for the District (outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park), which will replace the saved policies from the 1999 Local Plan. The new Local Development Plan will contain strategic policies and will identify development sites to meet the needs of Craven up to 2026.
What are the Council currently working on?
The Localism Act and new National Planning Policy Framework have changed the way Local Development Plans should be written. Previously, Local Planning Authorities were required to write a number of separate documents, each focussing on different things (for example, the Core Strategy which would set out the strategic planning policies for Craven, and the Site Allocations document which would identify land for development). Now the Council just has to write one, complete Local Development Plan, which should contain everything. This is what the Planning Policy Team at Craven is working on at the moment.
Over the next few months we will be looking at how many new houses might be needed in Craven (outside the National Park) up to 2026, and how these should be spread across the District.
We have also been working with Parish Council's to get an idea of the things that are important to each town and village which could be influenced by the Local Development Plan. Please contact your local Parish Council for more information on this.
Planning Studies
The Planning Policy Team has undertaken a number of studies to gather information on the District. The findings of these studies will inform the preparation of new planning policies within the Local Development Plan, and will be used to justify policy decisions.
