Craven District Council works together with other Councils in York and North Yorkshire to run campaigns and provide information to residents on how they can reduce, reuse and recycle at home.

Visit the York and North Yorkshire Waste Partnership's website Let's Talk Less Rubbish and go to the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle pages. These pages contain more information on other county-wide and national projects and campaigns, such as the Choose to Reuse campaign.

Reduce your rubbish - this is the best option.
Re-use the item instead of throwing it away.
Recycle your rubbish: everyone is getting into the habit.  


Compost Awareness Week

Compost Awareness Week is an international campaign designed to encourage more people to recognise the benefits of home composting and the great results that can be achieved by using peat-free composts containing recycled material.

Choose2Reuse campaign

The York and North Yorkshire Waste Partnership in partnership with other organisations including charity shops and Furniture Reuse Organisations (FRO's), schools and colleges, designers, crafts people and businesses across the area working together on a reuse campaign called Choose2Reuse.

The campaign aims to:

1. increase the quantity of good quality donations to Charity shops and Furniture Reuse Organisations

2. Encourage more people to buy more pre-owned goods

3. Increase the number of people involved in volunteering in 'reuse' activities in Charity Shops and Furniture Reuse Organisations through a 'Reuse Champion' programme

Love Food Hate Waste Campaign

The "Love Food Hate Waste" campaign aims to raise awareness of the need to reduce the amount of food that we through away, and how doing this will benefit us as consumers and the environment.

Recycle Now Week

Recycle Now is a campaign to encourage people in England to recycle more things more often.

The week is all about showing and inspiring people there are lots more things we can all do to recycle more; helping people understand why its important to recycle and how easy it is and how it benefits the environment.
